Agree about the Biblical parallel, but I would offer just this one qualification on the subject of what Republican politicians should have done: my view, as I’ve said, is that it doesn’t even matter if Ford had a videotape of the incident that completely supported her account. The whole incident just isn’t relevant because it’s about something Kavanaugh is alleged to have done when he was a dumb, drunk kid in high school. He’s clearly very different today. As such, this whole incident, like all the dumb things we say and do as teenagers, shouldn’t be brought back into the picture when we’re responsible adults. It would be different if women from his adult life were claiming that he’s still like this, but no one is. They’re saying very much the opposite. As such, the incident just doesn’t bear on his present-day character and so has no relevance to his candidacy for the Supreme Court. For that reason, my view is that Ford should have been ignored no matter how good her proof was.
