Great article, as always, David. Well-written and cogently argued. De Blasio has been particularly awful during this crisis. While Cuomo has been doing whatever he needs to do to keep the city and state safe, De Blasio has been taking every opportunity to engage in political posturing, or what you call “Coronapoliticking.” This crisis has certainly brought a bit of unity to our divided country and taken some focus off of these ludicrous identity issues that had been at the fore, and yet it’s still appalled me to see the extent to which politicians and media are trying to use this crisis to pursue their petty agendas. Flawed as Trump’s initial response was to the crisis, he got it together and now seems to be doing a decent job (notwithstanding stray remarks that sound nutty), and I think he’s absolutely right in saying that there are many people in the media who would be more excited to see him fail than they would to see the crisis resolved successfully. Republicans and Democrats trying to load up the stimulus package with their pet issues (whether unnecessary giveaways to corporations or requirements that corporations have diverse boards or whatever) is pathetic. And this whole “let the prisoners out” thing is crazy, of course. The thinking should be about how to keep prisoners safe IN prisons and the rest of us safe outside.
