Hey, “Black America”: While You’re Ditching Your “Slave Names,” Why Not Also Ditch Every Other Aspect of American Identity?
If you’re part of “Black America” (don’t know what that is, but maybe I’m just too “white” to understand such things and naively still believe we all live — or at least should aspire to live — in one America …), and you read this article advising you to ditch your “slave names” because they were given to you by families that kept your ancestors enslaved, I’ve got some additional suggestions for you to consider. Just so you can stay intellectually consistent, you know…. So, I’d suggest ditching every other aspect of this oppressive nation that brought your ancestors here against their wills and kept them enslaved for centuries.
Ditch your home in this brutally oppressive land.
Ditch your American job, especially if it involves working for the oppressive white man.
Ditch American technology.
Ditch American food.
Ditch freedom of speech.
Ditch freedom of religion.
Ditch the ideals of pluralism and tolerance that allow you to spew forth angry diatribes with impunity.
Ditch the English language. It’s the mother tongue of the oppressor, after all.
Ditch every aspect of American culture. Turn off that awful American t.v. that broadcasts American oppression into your home (I did this a long time ago myself, actually, and have lived without one since 2008…though I have to admit my reasons were a bit different from yours).
Ditch your white American friends, especially if they’re descendants of slave-owners, but even if they’re not direct descendants of slave-owners, you might want to go overbroad on this one and sweep in all white people just to make sure you’ve got the bad ones covered (and because they all benefit from “white privilege,” right?).
Ditch your gratitude for every good aspect of America and, instead, focus solely on your hate and blame and resentment and anger about every bad aspect of America.
This is an awesome way to live. You’re gonna love the new you, renamed and re-focused wholly on your hatred of America and your seething rage about historical oppression. After you run this experiment for at least a few months, get back to me and post your experiences in the comments below. And please, keep in mind that the more angry, bitter, classless, incoherent and profanity-laced that your comments are, the more enjoyable reading them will be for the wider Medium community. America deserves to hear ALL your hatred. Pile it on!
