I’m not a conservative, but I do share at least some of Trump’s policy positions (such as his view about the need to move towards a policy that focuses on admitting skilled/educated immigrants rather than merely family members of those who are already here, his view of not getting us involved in foreign conflicts and nation-building the way that the hawks in both parties — the Bushes, Clinton or McCain — would prefer, and his opposition to political correctness and thought policing). My answer to your question is yes, I’d much prefer that he actually speak more like a traditional politician (i.e., eloquently) and less like a 15-yr.-old with ADHD. Obama was a great orator, of course. On the conservative side, my favorite political orator in my lifetime was Pat Buchanan. Trump shares many of Buchanan’s policy ideas, but he certainly doesn’t have his gift of gab (or, unfortunately, his intellectual consistency). But, look, if I have to choose between a great speaker with whom I completely disagree and a horrible speaker with whom I have many more agreements on substance, I’ll take the latter any day of the week.
