Unfortunately, the reality is that right now, in the current climate, it’s nearly impossible to have a decent conversation about these kinds of issues with people who have a different view, but I’ve managed to talk to people successfully about these issues a few times by starting with establishing that we have a shared objective — a post-racial future in which skin color no longer matters--and then the sole question becomes whether the best strategy for getting there is to be race-conscious, which then makes everyone feel defensive and gets us into these kinds of accusations back and forth about who has more privilege right now, or race-blind, in which case white and black people can fight side by side for a post-racial future.
