That’s exactly right. While the #MeToo movement thus far has been directed against powerful, successful men, ultimately its impact is going to be felt most strongly, I suspect, among those we’d call the “loser” men, those who don’t have a lot going for them and don’t know how to handle themselves socially around women and don’t have a natural sense of what is or isn’t appropriate in large part because most ANYTHING they try in the way of advances or flirtation is going to be thought inappropriate simply because of who they are. In this way, instead of empowering anything, the movement is going to make women feel more like perpetual victims and is going to end up making men feel like victims as well. We’re all going to need protection from each other.
