Yeah, my (admittedly purely anecdotal) observation has been that those who rush to apologize and express contrition when they get called out simply show the angry mob weakness that results in a pile-on and feeding frenzy. The apology is a license to inflict punishment. There are some things that really merit apologies, but for most others, we need to have the courage of our convictions.
